Quick answer
Stardust and Elemental are current Sorcerer testing directions, not confirmed universal best builds. DevNote #7 gives Stardust Tempest a shorter cooldown and higher damage, while Elemental received documented changes to Arcane Armor, Windcraft, Deep Freeze, Flameblade, Crystal Icebolt, Thunderstrike, and Thunder Pierce. Choose the branch whose documented tools answer the situation you are testing.
Evidence checked
Bellring's DevNote #7 and July 30 update name the relevant Sorcerer changes. They do not publish a complete talent tree, item-stat table, or match-up data, so this page compares confirmed change anchors rather than inventing a final tier list.

Test Stardust when cast completion is the question
DevNote #7 says Stardust Tempest received a cooldown reduction and damage increase. The July 30 update also corrects Chant Guard: it increases chanting speed for Stardust spells, and the first hit taken while chanting will not interrupt the chant; Stardust Torrent's casting phase also benefits, subject to a cooldown.
That is a real reason to test a Stardust direction when the question is whether a pressured cast can complete. It is not proof that the branch wins every duel, every boss encounter, or every equipment tier.
Test Elemental when close-range recovery is the question
The same DevNote records faster Arcane Armor, larger and faster Windcraft, faster Deep Freeze and Flameblade activation, a changed Crystal Icebolt cooldown rule, and Thunderstrike and Thunder Pierce tuning. These changes make Elemental a sensible branch to test when a player wants to examine recovery, lane control, or pressure after a rush.
The official notes do not establish exact damage breakpoints, so the right test is conditional: pick one documented defensive or control tool, one documented damage tool, and record where the setup fails rather than calling it best-in-slot.
Use the same test conditions for both
Do not compare branches across different patches, party sizes, equipment tiers, or objectives. Pick a single mode, record the patch, selected skills, talents, equipment tier, and whether the scenario is uncontested PvE, a pressured fight, or a recovery after contact.
The result should state a boundary. For example, a branch can be a stronger test candidate for protected casting or for close-range reset without becoming a permanent recommendation for every player.
| Guide angle | Practical recommendation | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Primary decision | Test Stardust when pressured casting is the question. | This is the first action readers should test in real runs. |
| Risk check | Test Elemental when close-range recovery or control is the question. | This keeps the recommendation tied to extraction risk instead of generic fantasy advice. |
| Update trigger | Keep patch, equipment tier, mode, and objective constant. | Refresh this recommendation after official footage, patch notes, or confirmed launch data. |
